Info

The CD „Swinging Mallets“ was Roland Härdtner's debut album recorded in 1994, where his arrangement of Claude Bolling's „ Suite Nr. 1“ is in the centre of attention, which was written by the famous French orchestra master and composer in 1975 for the flute player Jean-Pierre Rampal. In the style of a baroque suite, this composition contains different movements, which vary in tempo and mood. Impressive to listen to is the continous dialog between jazz and classic elemets, which meet, imitate each other, move in different ways or amalgamate with each other. Besides other works from the classical repertoire like George Bizet's „Carmen Suite“ and Johannes Brahms' „Ungarischer Tanz Nr. 5“, as well as jazz standards like Dave Brubeck's „Take Five“ or Scott Joplin's „Maple Leaf Rag“, Härdtner arranged also „Look out little Ruth“ for this recording. The song is a almost forgotten piece of music written by the xylophone composer and soloist Kurt Engel, who was famous in the 30s of the last century.
