Info

In contrast to Härdtner's previous CD-productions, where the arrangements mainly focused on the mallet-instruments, this recording is based on a harmonically well-rehearsed team.

As a real crossover-project there are three jazz musicians playing together with Roland Härdtner, who can be considered more as „classic“ having his musical career in mind. Whilst the mallets expert „keeps up J.S. Bach's flag“ by variations of the compositional pattern, the jazz trio improvises with a lot of freedom for the solos. Nevertheless, the recording stays in a harmonically and well-defined, arranged framework so that the composition's structure is always noticeable.

Claude Bolling, the „father of french jazz“ writes about his recording:

This fabolous recording is a further proof, that Johann Sebastian Bach is really a pioneer of swing music – and what a swing! „Bach in Swing“ bubbles under the sticks and the mallet instruments of Roland Härdtner. This great classical compositions achieve such a dimension and vitality that their composer would be delighted to listen to them.

The combination of Johann Sebastian Bach / Lionel Hampton is rather unexpected, first it was a challenge then a big success, respectively in musicality as well as in the perfection of the performance.
